ZOA is a faith-based international non-governmental organization with its head office in the Netherlands. ZOA has been working in Sudan since 2004. Its current focus is on post-conflict recovery and rehabilitation and operates programmes in South Darfur, East Darfur, North Darfur and Gedaref state, covering the sectors of food security & livelihoods, water & sanitation and education.
WASH Adviser
The position is based at ZOA head office in Khartoum with frequent travels to the field. The WASH Adviser will report to the Programme Adviser
The WASH Adviser is responsible for the following tasks, responsibilities and results:
• Provide technical expertise and support to field teams on Water/WASH related issues
• Develop ZOA WASH strategy based on existing policies
• Providing major input in program formulation and monitoring as well as in the development and writing of successful project proposals
• Coordinating (and, as much as possible, conducting) WASH related engineering design work in ZOA Sudan as needed
• Advise and supervise the operational teams on water and water related interventions in order to ensure a high quality program implementation
• Contributing to the development of standard activity costing
• Contribute to the development of the advisory team
Selection criteria include:
• Minimum 5 years experience with NRM/WRM programs in recovery or development settings in developing countries
• MSc in hydrogeology, hydrology or irrigation engineering, with practical experience in designing and implementing (low – tech) engineering solutions
• Demonstrated affinity with the social. Political and gender aspects of water engineering issues
• Excellent knowledge of GIS and other geophysical/hydrological tools
• Excellent English skills. Strong conceptual and writing skills
• High accuracy and attention to detail
• Software literate in relevant packages. Advisory attitude
• Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
• A highly ethical work standard. Demonstrable multicultural sensitivity
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work in a multi – cultural and multi – religious setting
The salary scale for this position is from 5,526 SDG to 8,917 SDG per month
